“Maaijke weaves together the lives of a lusty Dutch woman of the 19th century and an interesting modern doctor of Dutch descent. Their impossible love affair takes place in a small harbor town in the Netherlands but the story moves back and forth between centuries and locations including hunting at a ranch in Wyoming, flying from a navy aircraft carrier, medical school in Boston, and Maaijke’s restricted life as young woman growing up in 1830’s Holland. Her vivid imagination grows into a magical ability to move forward in time to eras that have not yet happened, hence her encounter with Peter in the modern Netherlands.
The author writes with a detailed knowledge of all these places and brings the reader to feel the pleasures and terrible tensions of the ultimate long distance love affair.”

“What a clever and imaginative story. Lusty, transportive- why couldn’t it be true? It’s actually a great piece to re-work as a screen play; I can see it visually and I don’t think there are enough time-travel stories out in the world.”

“I just finished reading Maaijke. It’s a great story and I like the way it is told. The characters are well developed, and I found myself hoping for a good outcome for the heroine…in spite of her supernatural abilities I believed in her! And, since I got so swept in, I found myself thinking “ we’ll, of course, Peter is the father of his great grandfather, that’s just how it happened”

“A great book that is well written. Ties together a novel approach to generational time travel with a love story. It’s one you cannot put down, as you are led thru differing plot twists. Very enjoyable.”

“The reader becomes so caught up in the many facets of this tale, and the wrenching emotional interactions as Maaijke traverses the generational spans in her travels through time. The romantic impulse breathes life into the characters and likewise the personalities of the people with whom she lives give a panoply of contrasts. The author has done impressive research in many fields and this content, when intertwined in the enchanting story line, makes this novel truly evocative. I have read it twice and enjoyed it even more so the second time.”

“The unique use of time travel as a central narrative element works in this novel. The writing is crisp and evocative, but it’s the puzzle presented by the dueling plot lines that are both overlapping and at the same time separated by a century that makes this one a real page turner. The amorous protagonist finds himself in a most unexpected web of romantic relationships. His pained navigation down the complex course of women and time makes for a compelling read.”
